SPECIAL
INK

A pioneer in special inks
starting with Yuzen dyes.

When OHTAS was founded in 1948, we manufactured all sorts of dyes and stains. Based in the city of Kyoto, famous for its Yuzen silk dyeing techniques, the company developed a unique know-how about dyeing. We also sold products necessary for Yuzen silk dyeing, such as paintbrushes and other brushes. However, as the times changed, so did demand from our customers. Instead of focusing solely on kimono fabrics, we dedicated ourselves to developing special inks for a range of purposes. Today, customers wanting special inks approach us with every project imaginable. They often enquire, “Can you do this or that?” We are always ready to handle such customer requests.

We develop our special inks
through a process of trial and error.

When OHTAS was a young company, our founders lived in a world of made-to-order inks in which Yuzen silk dying craftsmen constantly struggled to fulfill the lofty expectations of their customers. We had to produce high-quality colors, of course, but also identify the perfect colors for our customers, carefully select our own colors, and incorporate modern technologies. A comprehensive manufacturer like OHTAS had to be willing to take on any challenge. The founders of our company passed on that spirit of innovation to the second and third generations of owners. We are committed to being attentive to our customers and work through trial and error to provide them with special inks they need, matched precisely.
